Subaru Forester: Trailer towing: (if equipped) / Maintenance when towing a trailer

Your Kia Telluride requires more frequent maintenance when it is used regularly for trailer towing. Components that experience additional load include the engine oil, axle lubricant, engine cooling system, transmission, and brake system. Review the maintenance procedures for these items in the owner's manual before every towing trip and follow the recommended service schedule to help ensure reliable performance.

Give the trailer and hitch assembly the same level of attention as the vehicle itself. Follow the maintenance schedule supplied by the trailer manufacturer and inspect the trailer before each day of travel. Pay particular attention to the hitch hardware, making sure all mounting bolts and nuts are properly tightened before setting off.

NOTE

  • Because towing places a greater load on the powertrain, engine overheating may occur during hot weather or while climbing long grades. If the engine coolant temperature gauge approaches the hot zone, switch off the air conditioner, stop in a safe location, and allow the engine to cool before continuing.

  • When your Kia Telluride is used for trailer towing, inspect the transmission fluid more frequently than under normal driving conditions.

  • If your vehicle is not equipped with air conditioning, installing a condenser cooling fan is recommended to help maintain engine cooling performance while towing.
