Subaru Forester: Vehicle safety system / Brake Assistant System (BAS)

The Brake Assistant System (BAS) is designed to help the Kia Telluride deliver stronger braking performance during emergency situations. When the system detects a rapid and forceful application of the brake pedal, it automatically increases braking pressure to assist the driver in achieving the shortest possible stopping distance.

By supplying additional hydraulic brake pressure before the Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) reaches full intervention, BAS helps reduce the time required for ABS activation and can contribute to shorter emergency stopping distances under appropriate road conditions.

BAS operation

The Brake Assistant System operates when all of the following conditions are satisfied:

• The Kia Telluride is traveling faster than 6 mph (10 km/h), and the ABS has not yet been activated.

• The brake pedal is pressed quickly and firmly beyond a specified threshold.

• The available road surface traction exceeds the minimum level required for proper BAS operation.

BAS operation OFF

The Brake Assistant System does not operate under the following circumstances:

• The vehicle speed is below approximately 3 mph (5 km/h).

• The brake pedal is applied under certain road conditions where BAS assistance cannot function effectively.

• The available tire-to-road friction is below the level required for normal system operation.
