Subaru Forester: Seat belts / Seat belt precautions

Always observe the following precautions when using the seat belts in your Kia Telluride. Correct seat belt use is essential for reducing the risk of injury and ensuring the restraint system performs as intended during a collision.

Infant or small child

Every U.S. state has laws governing the transportation of infants and children. Be sure you understand and follow the child restraint regulations that apply in your state. Child and infant restraint systems should always be properly installed in the rear seating area. Additional information is provided in the Child Restraint System (CRS) section of this manual.

Larger children

Children who have outgrown a Child Restraint System should continue to ride in the rear seat whenever possible and use the available lap/shoulder seat belt. The lap portion of the belt should fit low and snug across the hips, while the shoulder belt should cross the center of the chest and shoulder. Check the belt fit regularly, as normal movement during travel may cause it to shift.

Children are safest when properly restrained in the rear seating positions. If a child over 12 years of age must occupy the front passenger seat, ensure the child wears the lap/shoulder belt correctly and move the front passenger seat as far rearward as practical. Children younger than 13 years of age should always ride in the rear seat whenever possible. Never install a rear-facing child restraint in the front passenger seat.

If the shoulder belt contacts the child's neck or face, first try seating the child closer to the center of the vehicle. If proper belt positioning still cannot be achieved, the child should continue using an appropriate Child Restraint System.

Restraint of pregnant women

Pregnant women should wear the lap/shoulder seat belt whenever possible and follow the recommendations provided by their physician. The lap belt should always be positioned as low and securely as possible across the hips, below the abdomen, while the shoulder belt should pass naturally across the chest and shoulder.

Injured person

If an injured person must be transported in the Kia Telluride, they should wear a seat belt whenever possible. Consult a physician for the safest seating position and restraint recommendations based on the nature of the injury.

One person per belt

Never allow two occupants, including children, to share a single seat belt. Each seating position is equipped with an individual restraint system designed for one person only. Sharing a seat belt greatly increases the risk of severe injury during a collision.

Do not lie down

For the seat belt system to provide maximum protection, every occupant should remain seated upright with the seatback in a nearly vertical position while the Kia Telluride is moving. A seat belt cannot function correctly if the occupant is lying down or if the seatback is excessively reclined, significantly reducing the effectiveness of the restraint system during an accident.
