Subaru Forester: Seat belt restraint system / Pretensioner seat belt

For maximum protection, always make sure the seat belt webbing lies flat against your body without twists or excessive slack, and remain seated properly with your back against the seatback.

If the Kia Telluride is equipped with side or curtain air bags, the pretensioner seat belts may activate during certain frontal or side collisions.

Skin irritation

After a collision in which the pretensioner seat belts have activated, thoroughly wash any exposed skin with clean water and mild soap. Fine particles produced during pretensioner deployment may cause temporary skin irritation and should not be inhaled for extended periods.

• The driver's and front passenger's pretensioner seat belt systems may deploy not only during certain frontal impacts, but also during some side collisions or rollover events if the Kia Telluride is equipped with side or curtain air bags.

• Because the pretensioner system operates together with the SRS air bag system, the SRS air bag warning light on the instrument panel illuminates for approximately 3–6 seconds after the ENGINE START/STOP button is switched to the ON position. Under normal operating conditions, the warning light should then turn off.

• If the pretensioner seat belt system develops a malfunction, the SRS air bag warning light may remain illuminated or operate abnormally even when there is no apparent air bag fault. If the warning light fails to illuminate after switching the ENGINE START/STOP button to the ON position, remains illuminated beyond approximately 3–6 seconds, or comes on while driving, have the pretensioner seat belt and SRS air bag systems inspected by an authorized Kia dealer as soon as possible.

Never attempt to inspect, repair, modify, or replace any component of the pretensioner seat belt system yourself. Service on the pretensioner assemblies must only be performed by an authorized Kia dealer using the proper procedures and equipment.

Hot pretensioner

Do not touch the pretensioner seat belt assemblies immediately after they have deployed. During activation, the mechanism generates significant heat and may remain hot for several minutes, creating a risk of burns.
