Subaru Forester: Seat belts / Seat belt restraint system
For the highest level of protection, always wear your seat belt whenever the Kia Telluride is in motion. Proper seat belt use significantly reduces the risk of injury during sudden braking, sharp maneuvers, or a collision.

Position the shoulder belt so it rests midway across your shoulder and lies comfortably over your collarbone. It should never touch your neck or slip off your shoulder.

Children should never ride in the front passenger seat unless permitted by applicable child restraint recommendations. Refer to the Child Restraint System (CRS) section for additional information.

Twisted seat belt
Always make sure the seat belt webbing is flat and free of twists before fastening it. A twisted seat belt cannot distribute crash forces properly and may increase the risk of serious injury by concentrating force on a small area of the body.

Shoulder belt

Never place the shoulder belt under your arm or behind your back. An incorrectly positioned shoulder belt cannot provide proper protection during a collision.

Always wear both the lap and shoulder portions of the seat belt together. Using only part of the restraint system greatly reduces its effectiveness.

Damaged seat belt
Damage to the seat belt webbing, buckle, retractor, or any other component may prevent the restraint system from operating correctly. If any part of the seat belt assembly becomes damaged or has been subjected to crash forces, the complete assembly should be replaced, even if no visible damage is apparent.
Seat belts are engineered to transfer impact forces to the stronger skeletal areas of the body. For maximum effectiveness, wear the lap belt low and snug across the hips while positioning the shoulder belt across the center of the chest and over the shoulder. Avoid placing the lap belt across the abdomen.
Adjust the seat belt so it fits securely while remaining comfortable. A properly fitted belt provides significantly better protection than one that is loose.
Excessive slack in the seat belt can greatly reduce its ability to protect the occupant during an accident.
Keep the seat belt webbing clean and free from contaminants such as oils, grease, polishing compounds, chemicals, and especially battery acid. Clean the webbing only with mild soap and water. If the webbing becomes frayed, heavily contaminated, cut, or otherwise damaged, replace the entire seat belt assembly.

Do not modify, alter, or install accessories that could interfere with the operation of the seat belt adjustment or retractor mechanisms, or prevent the belt from removing slack properly.

When fastening a seat belt, ensure it is inserted into the correct buckle. Accidentally latching it into another seat's buckle may prevent the restraint system from providing proper protection.

Never fasten or unfasten your seat belt while driving. Removing your restraint while the vehicle is moving can result in loss of protection and increase the likelihood of serious injury or death in the event of an accident.

Before buckling the seat belt, make sure it passes only over clothing and is not routed over hard or bulky objects carried on your body.

Keep the seat belt buckle and buckle receptacle free of foreign materials such as coins, food crumbs, gum, dirt, or liquids. Obstructions may prevent the buckle from latching securely, reducing the effectiveness of the seat belt system and increasing the risk of serious injury or death during a collision.
