Subaru Forester: Seat belt restraint system / Seat belt warning

Kia Telluride seat belt warning indicator

The Kia Telluride seat belt warning system combines visual indicators and audible alerts to remind occupants to fasten their seat belts before and during driving. These reminders help encourage proper seat belt use for every seating position.

Driver's seat belt warning

Each time the ENGINE START/STOP button is switched to the ON position, the driver's seat belt warning indicator illuminates for approximately 6 seconds, regardless of whether the driver's seat belt is fastened. If the belt remains unfastened, a warning chime sounds for approximately 6 seconds.

If the vehicle begins moving at approximately 5 mph (9 km/h) to 12 mph (20 km/h) with the driver's seat belt unfastened, the corresponding warning light remains illuminated. The warning light turns off when vehicle speed drops below approximately 5 mph (9 km/h).

If the Kia Telluride is driven at approximately 12 mph (20 km/h) or faster without the driver's seat belt fastened, or if the belt is unfastened while driving at or above this speed, the warning indicator flashes continuously and the warning chime sounds for approximately 100 seconds. If the belt is released while traveling between approximately 5 mph (9 km/h) and 12 mph (20 km/h), only the warning light is displayed. Flashing and the audible warning begin only after vehicle speed exceeds approximately 12 mph (20 km/h).

Front passenger's seat belt warning

As a reminder for the front passenger, the seat belt warning light also illuminates for approximately 6 seconds whenever the ENGINE START/STOP button is switched to the ON position, regardless of whether the seat belt is fastened.

If the Kia Telluride begins moving between approximately 5 mph (9 km/h) and 12 mph (20 km/h) while the front passenger's seat belt is not fastened, the corresponding warning light remains illuminated. The indicator turns off once vehicle speed decreases below approximately 5 mph (9 km/h).

If the vehicle is driven at approximately 12 mph (20 km/h) or faster without the front passenger's seat belt fastened, or if the belt is released while driving at those speeds, the warning light flashes continuously and the warning chime sounds for approximately 100 seconds. If the belt is unfastened while traveling between approximately 5 mph (9 km/h) and 12 mph (20 km/h), the warning light illuminates without flashing or sounding the chime until the vehicle exceeds approximately 12 mph (20 km/h).

TIP

  • Even when the front passenger seat is unoccupied, the front passenger seat belt warning light may illuminate for approximately 6 seconds after the vehicle is switched ON.

  • The front passenger seat belt warning system may also activate if luggage or other heavy objects are placed on the front passenger seat.

3rd row seat: (4) Left side, (5) Center, (6) Right side

To remind rear passengers to fasten their seat belts, the corresponding rear seat belt warning indicators illuminate for approximately 6 seconds whenever the ENGINE START/STOP button is switched to the ON position, regardless of whether the rear seat belts are fastened.

If the Kia Telluride begins moving with a rear seat belt unfastened, the corresponding warning light flashes for approximately 70 seconds.

If a rear passenger unfastens the seat belt while the vehicle is traveling below approximately 12 mph (20 km/h), the related warning light flashes for approximately 70 seconds.

If a rear seat belt is unfastened while the vehicle is traveling above approximately 12 mph (20 km/h), the corresponding warning light flashes and the warning chime sounds for approximately 35 seconds.

Unbuckling a rear seat belt before the vehicle has come to a complete stop causes the reminder light to flash and the audible warning to sound. Depending on vehicle conditions, this reminder may continue for up to approximately 35 seconds after exiting the vehicle. For maximum safety, always unfasten your seat belt only after the Kia Telluride has completely stopped.

If a rear door is opened or closed while driving below approximately 6 mph (10 km/h), the rear seat belt warning system will not activate later, even if vehicle speed subsequently exceeds approximately 12 mph (20 km/h).
