Subaru Forester: 12V battery / 12V battery recharging

Should the 12V battery in your Kia Telluride become depleted or lose its charge, allow the engine to run continuously for at least 60 minutes, either by taking the vehicle for a drive or letting it idle safely in an open area. Alternatively, you can restore power by hooking up a fully automatic regulated smart charger directly to the dedicated jump-start posts located under the hood or connecting it straight to the 12V battery terminals.

When recharging the 12V battery, observe the following essential safety procedures and operational precautions:

  • If you choose to remove the 12V battery from the engine compartment, place it on a stable surface in a well-ventilated workspace to prevent gas accumulation.

  • Ensure all lit cigarettes, open flames, and potential electrical spark sources are kept far away from the active charging area.

  • Monitor the 12V battery closely throughout the entire charging cycle, and immediately switch off or turn down the charging rate if any of these conditions occur:

    1. The liquid electrolyte inside the 12V battery cells starts to bubble or boil vigorously.

    2. The temperature of the cell electrolyte spikes above 120 °F (49 °C).

  • Always put on suitable protective eyewear whenever inspecting or working near the 12V battery while it is connected to a power supply.

  • Before connecting charger leads or performing routine battery maintenance on your Kia Telluride, completely shut off the ignition and turn off all electrical equipment and interior accessories.

  • When charging is finished, safely disconnect the 12V battery charger by executing these exact steps in order:

    1. Power down the main power switch on the 12V battery charging unit.

    2. Unclamp the negative (-) terminal connector from the negative battery post.

    3. Unclamp the positive (+) terminal connector from the positive battery post.

  • Whenever you completely disconnect the 12V battery cables, always unfasten the negative (-) cable first during removal and reconnect it last during installation to eliminate short circuits.

WARNING

AGM battery

  • Absorbent Glass Mat (AGM) batteries are completely sealed and maintenance-free. Always have your AGM battery diagnosed, serviced, or checked by an authorized Kia dealer.

If you need to recharge your AGM unit, rely exclusively on fully automatic regulated chargers designed specifically with dedicated AGM charging profiles.

  • When it comes time for replacement, install only genuine AGM replacement units sourced through an authorized Kia dealer to match factory specifications.

  • Never attempt to force open or remove the sealed top caps on the battery casing, as doing so can release corrosive internal electrolytes and cause severe chemical burns or injury.
