Subaru Forester: Parking Distance Warning (PDW): (if equipped) / Parking Distance Warning operation

Parking Safety button

Simply press the physical Parking Safety (Parking Safety system toggle button icon with vehicle and sensor symbol) button on the center console to manually turn ON the Parking Distance Warning feature. Pressing the button a second time will manually disengage and turn OFF the system monitoring function.

Whenever you shift the automatic transmission gear selector into R (Reverse), the Kia Telluride Parking Distance Warning system will automatically switch ON by default, which is visually confirmed when the integrated Parking Safety button indicator LED turns ON.

Forward Parking Distance Warning

The Forward Parking Distance Warning system in your Kia Telluride actively engages to assist with low-speed maneuvering whenever any of the following operational conditions are satisfied:

  • Directly after shifting the transmission gear selector from R (Reverse) to D (Drive) while the Reverse Parking Distance Warning feature is currently active and turned ON.

  • Whenever the transmission selector is shifted into D (Drive) and the console-mounted Parking Safety (Kia Telluride Parking Safety control button illuminated indicator icon) button indicator light remains illuminated.

  • The Forward Parking Distance Warning actively alerts you while driving in D (Drive) provided you have previously enabled the automatic feature by navigating on the Kia Telluride infotainment system screen to Setup > Vehicle > Driver Assistance > Parking Safety > Parking Distance Warning Auto On.

TIP

  • The Forward Parking Distance Warning system monitors surrounding obstacles only while the vehicle’s traveling speed remains strictly below 6 mph (10 km/h).

  • When the transmission selector is placed in R (Reverse), the Forward Parking Distance Warning will not issue general alerts for obstacles directly in front of the vehicle. However, an audible warning chime will trigger if the front side sensors detect an object within 12 in (30 cm) of the front outer perimeter while turning the Kia Telluride steering wheel.

  • If you leave the Parking Distance Warning Auto On function toggled off, the entire Forward Parking Distance Warning feature (along with its physical button status light) automatically turns OFF as soon as vehicle velocity exceeds 18 mph (30 km/h). Once deactivated this way, dropping back below 6 mph (10 km/h) will not automatically re-enable system monitoring unless manually reactivated.

  • An acoustic alert chime will promptly sound whenever the ultrasonic sensors detect an oncoming or stationary physical object directly in the vehicle's projected driving path.

  • To reduce driver disturbance, the active acoustic alert chime may automatically pause or deactivate while the vehicle remains completely stationary.

  • The designated visual graphic appears on screen and an acoustic alert chime sounds concurrently whenever any active ultrasonic sensor detects a person, animal, or stationary object within its immediate detection zone.

  • When multiple physical objects (more than 2) are detected simultaneously on the Kia Telluride perimeter, the audible alert prioritize and warns for the nearest obstacle.

  • Please note that the exact graphic style or visual layout shown in these manual illustrations may vary slightly depending on your specific Kia Telluride model year and cluster software version.

Side Parking Distance Warning: (if equipped)

The integrated Side Parking Distance Warning system provides supplemental perimeter protection for your Kia Telluride, operating whenever any of the following parameters are active:

  • When the driver shifts the automatic transmission selector directly into R (Reverse).

  • When the vehicle gear selector is in D (Drive) and the center console Parking Safety (Kia Telluride console switch icon with active green LED indicator) button light is illuminated.

  • While current vehicle ground speed stays reliably below 6 mph (10 km/h).

TIP

  • Side Parking Distance Warning sensors function strictly while operating at low maneuvering speeds under 6 mph (10 km/h).

  • The side monitoring features remain active only when the primary Forward or Reverse Parking Distance Warning functions are powered ON.

  • An acoustic warning chime will trigger if a side-zone obstacle is actively detected along the Kia Telluride intent trajectory or driving path.

  • The audible chime alert may automatically mute when the vehicle comes to a complete standstill.

  • Whenever a side ultrasonic sensor detects a person, structure, or object nearby, the instrument cluster panel and central infotainment display present distinct visual warning icons relative to the measured clearance.

  • An intense audible warning chime sounds continuously when a side obstacle is detected within 12 in (30 cm) inside the immediate vehicle turning arc or exit trajectory.

  • If an object is situated along the side but outside of the direct vehicle turn clearance trajectory, the Kia Telluride system displays silent visual indicators only without sounding the chime.

  • While moving in D (Drive), if the lateral distance to a side object equals or exceeds 12 in (30 cm), the instrument cluster suppresses the side-way visual warning graphics.

  • Screen iconography and visual indicators shown in manual diagrams may present minor design differences compared to the active display in your Kia Telluride.

Reverse Parking Distance Warning

The Reverse Parking Distance Warning system automatically activates to assist with safe backing procedures whenever you shift the transmission gear selector into R (Reverse) in your Kia Telluride.

TIP

  • An acoustic warning chime will immediately activate whenever the ultrasonic sensors detect an oncoming or stationary physical object directly within the vehicle’s driving path during reversing maneuvers.

  • To keep cabin acoustics comfortable during brief stops, the warning sound may automatically pause or deactivate when the vehicle is stationary.

  • The corresponding visual indicator appears on screen and an clear audible warning chime sounds whenever each rear ultrasonic sensor detects a person, animal, or physical object within its active sensing range.

  • When more than 2 objects are detected at the same time along the rear bumper area, the system priority shifts so that the audible warning applies to the closest one.

  • The specific shape or visual design of the indicator in the manual illustration may differ slightly from the active graphic displayed by your specific Kia Telluride trim level.
