Subaru Forester: Automatic Transmission (AT) / Transmission ranges
When the Kia Telluride is in the ON position, the selected transmission range is displayed on the instrument cluster, allowing you to easily confirm the current gear selection.

P (Park)
Always bring the Kia Telluride to a complete stop before selecting P (Park). This position mechanically locks the transmission to help prevent the drive wheels from rotating while the vehicle is parked.
WARNING

Never shift into P (Park) while the vehicle is moving. Doing so may lock the drive wheels, damage the transmission, and cause a loss of vehicle control.

Do not rely on P (Park) as a substitute for the parking brake. Whenever you park, always shift to P (Park) and fully apply the parking brake.

Never leave children or vulnerable passengers unattended inside the vehicle.

Selecting P (Park) before the vehicle has completely stopped may result in transmission damage.
R (Reverse)
Select R (Reverse) when backing up the Kia Telluride.
The shift selector provides a vibration to confirm that R (Reverse) has been successfully engaged.
NOTE
Always stop the vehicle completely before shifting into or out of R (Reverse). Selecting Reverse while the vehicle is still moving forward may damage the transmission, except in situations specifically described under Special driving conditions.
N (Neutral)
In N (Neutral), the transmission is disengaged from the drive wheels, allowing the vehicle to roll freely. Even a slight incline may cause the Kia Telluride to move unless the parking brake or service brake is applied.

For maximum safety, always park the vehicle in P (Park) and apply the parking brake. Leaving the transmission in N (Neutral) may allow the vehicle to roll unexpectedly, resulting in property damage or serious injury.

After switching the vehicle to the OFF position, the Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) cannot be released.

If the Kia Telluride is equipped with EPB and the AUTO HOLD function is active, turning the vehicle to the OFF position automatically applies the parking brake. Turn the AUTO HOLD function off before switching the vehicle off if necessary.
WARNING
Do not drive or leave the vehicle parked in N (Neutral). Engine braking is unavailable in Neutral, which can increase the risk of losing vehicle control or allow the vehicle to roll unexpectedly.
D (Drive)
D (Drive) is the normal driving position for forward travel. In this mode, the Kia Telluride automatically shifts through all eight forward gears to provide an effective balance of performance, smooth operation, and fuel economy.
When additional acceleration is required, such as during overtaking or while climbing a steep incline, press the accelerator pedal firmly. The transmission automatically downshifts to provide increased engine power.
NOTE
Always bring the vehicle to a complete stop before shifting into D (Drive).
