Subaru Forester: Fuel filler door / Closing and locking the fuel filler door

To lock the fuel filler door, use one of the following methods:

• Press the lock button on your smart key.

• Press the central door lock switch on the driver's door armrest.

For added security, all doors and the fuel filler door of your Kia Telluride automatically lock once vehicle speed exceeds 9.3 mph (15 km/h).

1. Install the fuel tank cap by turning it clockwise until you hear a distinct click.
2. Close the fuel filler door by pressing firmly on its rear center edge until it is fully latched.

   NOTE

   To ensure the Kia Telluride fuel filler door locks correctly, press it firmly into the LOCK position after it is completely closed.

   If the fuel filler door is not fully seated, the locking mechanism will not engage properly.

   WARNING

   Refueling

   Always loosen and remove the fuel cap slowly and carefully. If fuel is leaking around the cap or you hear a noticeable hissing sound, wait until the pressure is completely released before removing the cap.

   Pressurized fuel may spray outward unexpectedly, potentially soaking your clothing or skin and increasing the risk of burns or fire.

   TIP

   When refueling your Kia Telluride on an incline or uneven surface, the fuel gauge may not immediately indicate a full tank. This is normal. Once the vehicle is parked on level ground, the gauge will update accordingly.

   TIP

   Always tighten the fuel cap until it clicks once. A loose cap may trigger the engine warning indicator and affect the evaporative emissions system.

   NOTE

   Keep the fuel filler door securely closed and locked when washing the vehicle, including when using automatic car washes or high-pressure cleaning equipment.

   WARNING

   Always verify that the fuel cap is securely tightened before leaving the fueling station. A loose or improperly installed fuel cap can lead to fuel leakage during an accident and may increase the risk of fire.

   WARNING

   Fire/explosion risk

   Carefully read and follow every safety instruction displayed at the fueling station. Ignoring posted warnings may result in severe burns, serious injury, or death caused by fire or explosion.

   WARNING

   Static electricity

   • Before touching the fuel nozzle, discharge any static electricity by touching an unpainted metal part of your Kia Telluride located away from the fuel filler neck, nozzle, or fuel vapors.

   • After refueling has begun, avoid getting back into the vehicle. Sliding across clothing or upholstery made from materials such as polyester, satin, or nylon can generate static electricity. A static discharge may ignite fuel vapors and cause a fire.

   WARNING

   Portable fuel container

   When filling an approved portable fuel container, always place the container directly on the ground before refueling. Refueling a container inside a vehicle or truck bed can allow static electricity to accumulate and ignite fuel vapors.

   Maintain contact with the vehicle throughout the refueling process, and use only approved plastic fuel containers specifically designed for storing and transporting gasoline.

   WARNING

   Cell phone fires

   Do not use a mobile phone while refueling your Kia Telluride. Electrical activity or electronic interference from portable devices may create conditions that could ignite fuel vapors and cause a fire.

   WARNING

   Fuel vapors are extremely flammable. Never smoke or allow open flames, sparks, or any ignition source near the vehicle while refueling. Always switch the engine off before opening the fuel filler door and remain alert throughout the refueling process to help prevent accidents or fire hazards.

Refueling and vehicle fires

Always switch the engine off before refueling your Kia Telluride. Electrical components associated with the engine can generate sparks capable of igniting fuel vapors, creating a serious fire hazard. After refueling is complete, verify that both the fuel filler cap and the fuel filler door are securely closed before restarting the engine.

WARNING

Always refuel your Kia Telluride using the fuel grade specified under the Fuel Requirements section of this manual.

If the fuel filler cap needs replacement, install only a genuine Kia fuel cap or an approved equivalent designed specifically for your vehicle. Using an incorrect cap may cause malfunctions in the fuel delivery or evaporative emission control systems.
