If your Kia Telluride is equipped with a factory roof rack, you have the versatility to expand your cargo capacity by mounting various accessories, such as cargo carriers, luggage boxes, or roof-mounted camping tents, directly onto the vehicle’s roof.

Please note that the specific design and mounting style of the roof rack may vary based on your trim level and market, so the actual hardware might differ slightly from the provided illustrations.

You can secure your cargo and specialized sporting equipment directly to the factory rails or utilize genuine Kia crossbars, which are engineered specifically for the Kia Telluride and are available through your local authorized Kia dealer for a perfect, secure fit.

TIP

For optimal stability, ensure that the crossbars (if equipped) are positioned in the manufacturer-recommended load-carrying locations before you begin mounting any gear onto the roof rack.

If you notice wind noise while driving, consider adjusting the position of the crossbars; often, slight repositioning can significantly improve aerodynamics when the rack is empty.

NOTE

Always use protective padding or appropriate mounts when carrying heavy gear to ensure the cargo does not contact or scratch the roof finish of your Kia Telluride.

When transporting oversized items, measure carefully to ensure the load does not extend beyond the safe limits of the vehicle’s overall roof length or width, as this can affect visibility and handling.

Carrying a load on the roof rack raises the vehicle’s center of gravity, which fundamentally changes how the Kia Telluride handles. Securing items to the roof rack

Proper planning is essential before you attempt to load gear onto the Kia Telluride roof rack. Ensure you have high-quality tie-downs and the appropriate mounting hardware, and don't hesitate to seek assistance from others to ensure items are lifted and secured safely.

Always double-check that your load is centered and does not extend dangerously far past the front, rear, or sides of the vehicle.

Crucially, verify that your cargo does not block your clear view through the windshield, obstruct the front-facing safety cameras, or hide the high-mounted stop lamp from following drivers.

Account for the dynamic forces of wind; flexible cargo can distort at highway speeds. Sudden pressure changes—whether from vehicle movement, gusts, or passing traffic—can loosen straps or damage your crossbars, leading to distractions or a dangerous loss of visibility and control.

Always load and secure your gear while the vehicle is parked on firm, level ground, shifted firmly into P (Park), and with the parking brake fully engaged.

If using a tarp or cargo cover, ensure it is cinched down tightly so it does not flap, tear away, or cause a visual distraction while you are driving.

After starting your trip, perform a safety check on your attachments after a short distance, and periodically inspect the security of your load at each stop along your journey.

Verify that the total weight of all occupants inside the tent, combined with the weight of the tent itself, does not exceed the rated roof load capacity.
Confirm that the tent is rigidly and securely fastened to both the crossbars and the roof rails before any attempt is made to use it.
Never attempt to drive or move the vehicle while anyone is inside the roof tent.
Never keep the engine idling while occupants are in the tent. Furthermore, never operate a gas-powered generator, stove, lantern, or any fuel-burning device in or near an occupied tent or awning, as these items produce lethal levels of carbon monoxide—an odorless, colorless, and deadly gas.
