Subaru Forester: Opening and closing / Theft-alarm system

The Kia Telluride theft-alarm system is designed to help protect your vehicle against unauthorized entry and attempted theft by monitoring key access points and activating an audible and visual warning when necessary.

The system operates through three distinct stages:

Armed stage Disarmed stage Theft-alarm stage

If unauthorized access is detected while the system is armed, the alarm will sound and the hazard warning lights will flash to help deter theft and alert nearby people.

Armed stage

After parking your Kia Telluride, follow these steps to arm the theft-alarm system:

1. Press the ENGINE START/STOP button to the OFF position.
2. Make sure all doors, the hood, and the liftgate are completely closed and securely latched.
3. Press the button on the outside front door handle while carrying the registered smart key to lock the doors.

   After these steps are completed, the hazard warning lights flash once to confirm that the system has entered the armed stage. If any door, the hood, or the liftgate remains open, the theft-alarm system will not arm, the hazard warning lights will not flash, and the warning chime will not sound. The system can also be armed by locking the doors with the key, although the hazard warning lights will not flash in that case.

4. Press the lock button on the smart key to lock the doors.

   Once the vehicle is successfully locked, the hazard warning lights flash once to indicate that the Kia Telluride theft-alarm system is armed.

   TIP

   The theft-alarm system can be disabled only by an authorized Kia dealer.

   If you prefer to have this function deactivated, contact an authorized Kia dealer for assistance.

   TIP

   Do not arm the system until every passenger has exited the vehicle. If the system is armed while someone remains inside, the alarm may activate when that person leaves the vehicle. Likewise, if a door, the hood, or the liftgate is opened within approximately 30 seconds after arming the system, the alarm system automatically disarms to help prevent unnecessary alarm activation.

Theft-alarm stage

When the Kia Telluride theft-alarm system is armed, the horn sounds and the hazard warning lights flash continuously for approximately 30 seconds if any of the following occur:

• A front or rear door is opened without using the registered smart key.

• The liftgate is opened without using the smart key.

• The hood is opened.

Unless the system is properly disarmed, the horn will sound, the hazard warning lights will continue flashing for approximately 27 seconds, and the horn will sound three additional times. To switch the system OFF, unlock the vehicle using either the mechanical key or the registered smart key.

Disarmed stage

The theft-alarm system is automatically disarmed when any of the following actions are performed:

• Pressing the door unlock button on the smart key.

• Pressing the button on the outside front door handle while carrying the registered smart key.

• Starting the engine within approximately 3 seconds.

When the unlock button is pressed, the hazard warning lights flash and the smart key chime sounds twice, confirming that the theft-alarm system has been successfully disarmed.

If no door or the liftgate is opened within 30 seconds after unlocking the vehicle, the system automatically rearms for continued protection.
