Subaru Forester: Tires and wheels / Tire chains

If severe winter weather conditions necessitate the use of tire chains on your Kia Telluride, always install the traction devices on the front drive wheels.

Ensure that all tire chain assemblies are fitted and tensioned strictly in according with the chain manufacturer’s installation manual.

To prevent accelerated wear on both the tires and the road surface, remove tire chains immediately once you transition off snow-covered or icy roadways onto clear pavement.

  • Maintain cautious driving habits on snow- or ice-covered roads, keeping vehicle speed strictly below 20 mph (30 km/h) while traction chains are engaged.

  • If you detect metallic slapping or noise caused by the chains contacting the inner wheel wells or body structure of your Kia Telluride, stop immediately and retighten the chain links to prevent body damage.

  • To guard against structural body damage from loose links, re-check and manually retighten the tire chains after driving a short distance of 0.3–0.6 miles (0.5–1 km).

  • Avoid using traditional metal tire chains on vehicles fitted with aluminum alloy wheels, as contact can cause severe surface scarring. In unavoidable situations requiring supplementary traction, utilize approved fabric-type snow socks or specialized textile chains.
