Subaru Forester: Trailer towing: (if equipped) / Trailer Control Module (TCM)

The Trailer Control Module (TCM) connector can be accessed and installed by opening the rear bumper cover. Once installed, the system allows the Kia Telluride to recognize and communicate with a compatible trailer for improved towing functionality.

After the trailer control connector has been connected, the vehicle detects the trailer once the brake pedal is pressed for the first time or the vehicle reaches approximately 9 mph (15 km/h). When the trailer is recognized, the Kia Telluride automatically switches to Trailer Mode. The trailer's tail lamps, brake lamps, turn signals, and reverse lamps then operate in synchronization with the corresponding vehicle lighting systems.

If a malfunction is detected in the trailer lighting, a warning message requesting that the trailer lights be checked appears on the instrument cluster. Inspect all trailer lamps and wiring connections. If the trailer lighting is functioning correctly but the warning remains, have the trailer control connector inspected or replaced by an authorized Kia dealer.

When the trailer control connector is installed, the Trailer menu in the infotainment system provides useful information, including Trailer Mode status, towing mileage, and checklists to follow when attaching or removing a trailer.

If the TCM connector is installed and the Kia Telluride detects a connected trailer, certain driver assistance functions may operate differently or become temporarily limited. Always verify the availability of individual assistance systems before driving.

Infotainment system type
When the TCM connector is connected, or when Trailer Mode or Carrier Mode is enabled through the Trailer menu in the infotainment system, a notification appears on the instrument cluster and a trailer icon is displayed on the infotainment screen to confirm the selected operating mode.

A genuine Kia trailer control connector is available through authorized Kia dealers and is recommended for proper compatibility with the Kia Telluride towing system.

If the TCM controller is installed incorrectly or the Trailer menu settings are configured improperly, the effectiveness of certain driver assistance systems may be reduced, increasing the risk of an accident.

The Trailer menu settings remain stored even after the vehicle is restarted. Before every trip, verify that the controller is installed correctly, the trailer settings are appropriate, and operate the Kia Telluride with additional caution while towing.

Average vehicle speed
This display shows the average vehicle speed since the trip meter was last reset. Pressing the TRIP RESET switch toggles the display between the average vehicle speed corresponding to the A trip meter display and the average vehicle speed corresponding to the B trip meter display. When either of the trip meter displays is reset, the corresponding average vehicle speed value is also reset.
