The Kia Telluride trailer tow package includes a dedicated trailer electrical connector positioned near the hitch receiver. This factory-installed connector allows compatible trailers to be connected directly without requiring an additional adapter.

If the trailer lighting stops functioning while towing, the cause may be damaged trailer wiring or excessive electrical load from the connected lighting system. When this occurs, a red trailer mode indicator appears on the instrument cluster. Inspect and repair the trailer wiring or reduce the electrical load, then switch Trailer Mode off and back on to reset the system.

WARNING

  • Before every trip, it is the driver's responsibility to confirm that all trailer electrical connections are secure, every trailer light operates correctly, and the trailer braking system functions properly. The Kia Telluride cannot automatically detect every wiring error, so a manual inspection is essential. Failure to perform these checks may result in property damage, serious injury, or death.

  • Use only genuine Kia electrical connectors or approved replacement components. Never splice, modify, or connect trailer wiring using unauthorized methods, as this may damage the vehicle's electrical system and lead to improper operation.

  • If moisture enters the trailer connector socket, electrical problems such as corrosion, poor terminal contact, or short circuits may develop. To maintain safe and reliable operation, always follow these precautions:

    • Close the protective connector cover completely whenever the trailer connector is not in use.

    • If dirt, mud, dust, or moisture is present inside the connector or on the terminals, thoroughly clean and dry the connector before connecting a trailer.

    • Inspect the connector and surrounding area regularly for signs of corrosion, discoloration, moisture buildup, or other abnormalities.

    • If corrosion or moisture damage is discovered, replace the connector rather than attempting to reuse it, as continued operation may create a safety risk.

    • Damage resulting from moisture intrusion may not be covered under the vehicle warranty.

NOTE

Before driving, always confirm that the trailer electrical cable has sufficient slack for turning movements and is properly secured so it cannot drag on the road surface or become damaged during towing.
