Subaru Forester: Steering wheel / Steering wheel grip sensor

While the Kia Telluride Driver Assistance systems are operating, the steering wheel grip sensor monitors whether the driver is holding the steering wheel. If the system determines that the driver's hands are not detected, a Hands-off warning message will appear to encourage the driver to resume proper steering control.

For additional information, refer to the sections covering Lane Keeping Assist (LKA), Lane Following Assist (LFA), and Highway Driving Assist (HDA).

NOTE

The steering wheel grip sensor may not operate correctly unless the following precautions are observed.

  • Do not modify or replace the original steering wheel cover with aftermarket materials.

  • Do not attach accessories or decorative items to the steering wheel rim.

  • Prevent the steering wheel from coming into contact with electronic devices such as laptops, tablets, or similar equipment.

  • Avoid contact between the steering wheel and metallic or electrically conductive objects such as beverage cans, tumblers, or similar items.

  • Keep excessive moisture away from the steering wheel. Wet wipes, spilled liquids, or steam from vehicle cleaning may interfere with sensor operation.

If the driver is wearing thick gloves or if steering wheel covers, spinner knobs, or other accessories are installed, the grip sensor may not correctly recognize that the driver's hands are on the steering wheel, even when it is being held.
