Subaru Forester: Towing / When flatbed is unavailable

Kia Telluride two-wheel drive vehicle lifted by front drive wheels for short-distance towing

A two-wheel drive (2WD) Kia Telluride may be towed with its non-driven wheels rolling on the roadway (without wheel dollies), provided the driven wheels are fully raised off the ground and the electronic parking brake is disengaged prior to switching off the vehicle.

When flatbed equipment cannot be sourced and you must resort to two-wheel towing, always lift the driven wheels off the ground using commercial wheel-lift equipment before moving the vehicle.

NOTE

  • If any of the support wheels or lower suspension components are structural damaged, or if the vehicle must be moved with its primary driven wheels touching the ground, you must place a towing dolly beneath the driven wheels to isolate the drivetrain.

  • Never tow the vehicle using sling-type towing equipment. Hook-and-sling methods can crush body bumpers, bend lower control arms, and severely damage underbody structures. Always insist on using modern wheel-lift machinery or flatbed carriers.

  • Do not tow the vehicle backward with the driven wheels rolling on the road surface, as reverse rotation without active engine lubrication will cause catastrophic gear failure inside the transmission assembly.

Precautions for using towing hooks for short-distance movement before towing the vehicle

When utilizing emergency recovery hooks to maneuver your Kia Telluride onto a transport flatbed or adjust its position prior to towing, maintain a crawling speed of 3 mph (5 km/h) or less and restrict total rolling distance to under 32 ft (10 m).

During these brief recovery operations, shift the gear selector to N (Neutral) and fully release the parking brake. If electrical faults or mechanical damage prevent the transmission from shifting or render the parking brake unengageable, elevate all four wheels using a commercial tow dolly or heavy-duty tire skates before attempting to move the vehicle.
