Subaru Forester: Forward Collision-avoidance Assist operation / Basic function

The basic functions of Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist are designed to warn the driver first and, when needed, provide braking assistance to help reduce the risk or severity of a forward collision. These functions include:

• Collision Warning

• Emergency Braking

• Stopping vehicle and ending brake control

Collision Warning

Collision Warning

Collision Warning can alert the driver through a blinking Forward Safety warning light (), a warning message on the cluster, an audible warning, and steering wheel vibration when the system detects a possible forward collision.

Collision Warning operates when the target ahead is moving within the following speed ranges:

• The vehicle or motorcyclist speed is approximately 6-124 mph (10-200 km/h).

• The pedestrian or cyclist speed is approximately 6-53 mph (10-85 km/h).

Emergency Braking

Emergency Braking

Emergency Braking can warn the driver with a blinking Forward Safety warning light (), a warning message, an audible alert, and steering wheel vibration before or during braking assistance.

Emergency Braking may activate depending on the type of object ahead, the closing situation, and the level of collision risk under the following conditions:

• Vehicle or motorcyclist *:

  -	Driving target	Stopped target
  Weak braking power	6-124 mph (10-200 km/h)
  Strong braking power	6-80 mph (10-130 km/h)	6-53 mph (10-85 km/h)

  *: If Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist determines that a collision cannot be avoided by changing lanes because of the surrounding traffic or road situation, braking assistance is provided earlier. When the detected target is stationary, Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist may operate at speeds between about 6-62 mph (10-100 km/h), if equipped.

• Pedestrian or cyclist: 6-40 mph (10-65 km/h)

• When the detected object enters the operating range of Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist.

WARNING

Stopping vehicle and ending brake control

Drive carefully

If Emergency Braking brings the vehicle to a stop, a warning message appears on the instrument cluster.

For safety, immediately press the brake pedal and check the area around the Kia Telluride before taking any further action.

Brake control ends approximately 2 seconds after Emergency Braking stops the vehicle.
