Subaru Forester: Forward Collision-avoidance Assist operation / Direct Oncoming function

The Direct Oncoming function of Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist helps monitor vehicles approaching from the opposite direction. In the Kia Telluride, this function may respond through the following operating stages:

  • Collision Warning

  • Emergency Braking

  • Stopping vehicle and ending brake control

Collision Warning

  1. Collision Warning

Collision Warning can alert the driver with a blinking Forward Safety warning light (Kia Telluride Forward Safety warning light icon for Direct Oncoming warning), a warning message, an audible warning, and steering wheel vibration when the system identifies a possible direct oncoming collision.

Collision Warning may activate under the following conditions:

  • Your speed is approximately 19-80 mph (30-130 km/h) (*if equipped: 6-80 mph (10-130 km/h)).

  • The oncoming vehicle speed is above approximately 6 mph (10 km/h).

Emergency Braking

  1. Emergency Braking

Emergency Braking can alert the driver with a blinking Forward Safety warning light (Kia Telluride Forward Safety warning light icon for Direct Oncoming Emergency Braking), a warning message, an audible alert, and steering wheel vibration. If the risk continues to increase, the system may apply braking assistance to help reduce collision speed.

Emergency Braking may activate under the following conditions:

  • Your driving speed is approximately 19-80 mph (30-130 km/h).

  • The oncoming vehicle speed is above approximately 6 mph (10 km/h).

  • When the detected object enters the operating range of the Direct Oncoming function.

Stopping vehicle and ending brake control

  1. Drive carefully

When Emergency Braking stops your vehicle, a warning message appears on the instrument cluster.

For safety, press the brake pedal immediately and check the vehicle's surroundings before moving again.

Brake control ends approximately 2 seconds after Emergency Braking stops your vehicle.

WARNING

  • If your vehicle or the oncoming vehicle is not traveling straight, the Direct Oncoming function warning and control may be delayed or may not operate.

  • When driving at night, motorcycle detection performance may decrease. As a result, Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist may be temporarily limited or may not operate as expected.

TIP

Press the hazard warning light button to turn the warning sound OFF during Collision Warning and Emergency Braking.
