Subaru Forester: Fuses / Engine compartment fuse replacement. Main fuse (multi-fuse)

To inspect or replace a main power fuse located under the hood, carry out the following procedure:

  1. Shut off the engine, engage the parking brake, and confirm that all electrical controls and the ignition system are in the OFF position.
  2. Release the engine compartment fuse box cover by firmly pressing the side locking tab and lifting the plastic lid straight up.

  3. Grasp the suspected fuse using the specialized puller tool housed inside the engine compartment fuse box, pulling it straight upward to remove it from its socket.
  4. Examine the internal fuse strip to confirm if the element has melted. If blown, utilize the tool to insert a new fuse of identical amperage specification.
  5. Align the replacement fuse over the socket terminals and press down firmly to ensure a tight connection within the mounting clips. If the replacement unit fits loosely, contact an authorized Kia dealer for socket repair.

    NOTE

After servicing fuses in the under-hood distribution box, reinstall the plastic cover securely and press down until you hear a distinct audible click. Leaving the fuse box cover improperly latched can allow water, road spray, or engine wash to penetrate the enclosure, triggering severe electrical shorts.

    TIP

If a multi-fuse block in your Kia Telluride has blown, visit an authorized Kia dealer for professional inspection and replacement.

    NOTE

Certain onboard electronics may fail to function even when individual fuses within the interior cabin and engine compartment panels appear fully intact. In such cases, the primary Battery Fuse Terminal (BFT main fuse) located inside the positive 12V battery terminal protective cap may have blown. Because this primary main fuse features an intricate high-current design, visit an authorized Kia dealer for proper testing and replacement.

If the bolted main multi-fuse block requires replacement, follow these technical disassembly steps:

  1. Verify that the vehicle ignition is turned off and the key or smart fob is set to the OFF position.
  2. Disconnect the negative (-) 12V battery ground cable from its terminal post to isolate the electrical system.
  3. Unscrew and remove the retaining nuts securing the multi-fuse block assembly as illustrated in the reference diagram.
  4. Lift out the damaged multi-fuse unit and fit a new replacement fuse block featuring the exact same factory amperage rating.
  5. Reinstall the retaining hardware and battery cables in the exact reverse order of removal, torquing all fasteners securely.

NOTE

Visually check the positive 12V battery cover cap after service to confirm it is fully closed and latched. If the battery protective cap is left unsealed, environmental moisture ingress can corrode terminals and damage your Kia Telluride's electrical harness.
