Forward Attention Warning malfunction

Kia Telluride instrument cluster showing Check forward attention warning system message
  1. Check forward attention warning system

When Forward Attention Warning is not operating correctly, a warning message appears on the instrument cluster for several seconds. The Forward attention warning light (Forward Attention Warning indicator light icon) also illuminates on the instrument cluster, and an audible warning sounds until the system returns to proper operation.

If this condition occurs, have the Forward Attention Warning function in the Kia Telluride inspected by an authorized Kia dealer as soon as possible.

Forward Attention Warning disabled

Kia Telluride instrument cluster showing camera obscured Driver Assistance warning
  1. Driver Assistance System limited. Camera obscured

If an object remains directly in front of the in-cabin camera or between the driver and the camera for a certain period of time, Forward Attention Warning may not operate properly. In this situation, a warning message appears on the instrument cluster for several seconds, the Forward attention warning light (Forward Attention Warning warning light icon) illuminates on the instrument cluster, and an audible warning sounds until normal operation is restored.

When the obstruction is removed or the camera can clearly detect the driver’s face again, the function should return to normal operation. If Forward Attention Warning still does not operate properly after the object is removed, have the function checked by an authorized Kia dealer.

NOTE

  • Do not strike or apply impact to the camera surface or the area around the camera. If the in-cabin camera is damaged, Forward Attention Warning may not operate properly.

  • Do not place any object on the camera or in front of the camera while driving. Blocking the in-cabin camera may prevent the system from detecting the driver correctly.

  • When cleaning the camera, use a soft, clean cloth to avoid damaging the camera lens surface. Do not use sharp tools near the camera, and do not clean the camera with chemical products.

  • Keep the camera and the surrounding area clean and dry so the Kia Telluride can maintain proper Forward Attention Warning performance.

  • Do not attach foreign objects, including stickers or accessories, around the infrared LED located near the camera.

TIP

Two red lights may be visible on the camera under the following conditions:

  • The outside brightness is low, or the vehicle is being driven at night

  • The vehicle is being driven inside a building or enclosed area, such as a basement parking area, garage, or tunnel

  • The camera case is partially damaged

Limitations of Forward Attention Warning

Forward Attention Warning may not operate properly, may respond late, or may operate unexpectedly under the following circumstances:

  • The driver is wearing sunglasses, special glasses, infrared cutoff glasses, refracting glasses, or thick eyeglasses that interfere with eye or face recognition.

  • The driver has heavy eye makeup, such as eyeliner, mascara, color makeup, false eyelashes, or piercings around the eyes.

  • The driver’s face or eyes are blocked by hair, a hat, or another item.

  • The driver is winking or wearing an eye patch over one eye.

  • The driver’s face is partially covered by a mask, muffler, scarf, or similar object.

  • The driver’s view is affected or blocked by strong incoming light from outside the vehicle.

  • Light from outside the vehicle, sunlight, or infrared LED light from the camera is reflected by glasses or sunglasses.

  • The driver turns or lowers their head so that the face or eyes are hidden from the camera.

  • The driver shakes their head, or poor road conditions create excessive vehicle vibration while driving.

  • The driver is not seated properly in the driver’s seat, preventing the camera from detecting the face accurately.

  • The driver is too tall or too short for stable face detection by the camera.

  • The camera is blocked by the driver’s hand or grip on the steering wheel.

  • More than two people are looking toward the instrument cluster at the same time from the driver’s seat area.

  • The driver’s eyes are narrowed because of laughing, sunlight, glare, or similar conditions.

  • The camera incorrectly recognizes a picture, mannequin, or similar object as the driver’s face.

  • Other devices using infrared light are operating inside the vehicle.
