Subaru Forester: Door locks / In case of an emergency
If the electrical door lock system becomes inoperative, such as when the vehicle battery is discharged, the driver's door can only be locked from the outside using the mechanical key.
Doors that do not have an exterior key cylinder can be locked manually by following these steps:
-
Open the affected door.
-
Insert the mechanical key or a suitable flat screwdriver into the emergency door lock opening and turn it to the locked position.
-
Close the door securely.
TIP
If the electrical door lock system is unavailable because of a discharged battery and the liftgate is already closed, it cannot be opened until electrical power has been restored.
