Intelligent Speed Limit Assist malfunction

Check Driver Assistance system.

When Intelligent Speed Limit Assist is not operating correctly, the Master warning light () and the Intelligent Speed Limit Assist indicator light () appear on the instrument cluster. A warning message is also displayed for several seconds to notify the driver that the system requires attention.

If this condition occurs, have the Kia Telluride inspected by an authorized Kia dealer.

Intelligent Speed Limit Assist disabled

Driver Assistance system limited. Camera obscured.

When foreign material such as snow, rain, dirt, or moisture covers the windshield area where the front view camera is located, detection performance may be reduced. In this situation, Intelligent Speed Limit Assist may be temporarily limited or disabled because the camera cannot clearly recognize road signs and surrounding information.

If this occurs, a warning message and the Intelligent Speed Limit Assist indicator light () appear on the instrument cluster.

Intelligent Speed Limit Assist should return to normal operation after the foreign material is removed from the sensor area. Keep the windshield and the front view camera area clean so the Kia Telluride can detect traffic signs as accurately as possible.

If Intelligent Speed Limit Assist still does not operate properly after snow, rain, dirt, or other material has been removed from the sensor area, have the vehicle inspected by an authorized Kia dealer.

Limitations of Intelligent Speed Limit Assist

Intelligent Speed Limit Assist in the Kia Telluride may operate abnormally, provide delayed information, or respond unexpectedly under the following circumstances:

• The road sign is dirty, damaged, faded, or otherwise difficult to read.

  • The road sign is difficult to see because of poor weather conditions such as rain, snow, fog, or heavy spray from other vehicles.

  • The road sign is partly hidden by nearby objects, roadside structures, vegetation, parked vehicles, or shadows.

  • The road sign is bent, twisted, tilted, or installed at an unusual angle.

• The road signs do not match the standard format expected by Intelligent Speed Limit Assist.

  • The text, number style, symbol, or picture on the road sign differs from the standard recognized by Intelligent Speed Limit Assist.

  • The road sign is positioned between the main road and an exit road, or between roads that split in different directions.

  • A sign is attached to another vehicle.

• The distance between the vehicle and the road sign is too far for reliable recognition.

• Traffic signs are installed high above the road or outside the normal camera recognition area.

• The vehicle speed is high and there is not enough time for the system to recognize the traffic sign.

• Turn signals are used frequently while driving in lanes next to an exit or diverging roadway.

• The Kia Telluride is being driven very close behind a preceding vehicle, blocking the view of road signs.

• Supplementary signs, temporary signs, billboards, or advertisements are installed near the traffic sign.

• Communication with the map server is unstable.

• The navigation system reboots while the vehicle is being driven.

• There is a change of country or driving region.

  • The vehicle crosses a national border.

  • The country setting is changed through the country selection menu.

• The road signs are illuminated or displayed in a way that affects camera recognition.

• Intelligent Speed Limit Assist incorrectly recognizes numbers, symbols, pictures, street signs, or other signs as a speed limit.

• Intelligent Speed Limit Assist detects a sign intended for a nearby road instead of the road where the vehicle is traveling.

• Several signs are installed close together, making it difficult for the system to determine which sign applies.

• A minimum speed limit sign is mistakenly recognized as a maximum speed limit sign.

• The brightness changes suddenly, such as when entering or exiting a tunnel.

• The headlights are not being used, or the headlight brightness is weak while driving at night or inside a tunnel.

• Strong sunlight or glare obstructs the field of view of the front view camera.

• Road signs are difficult to identify because of reflections from sunlight, street lighting, wet pavement, or oncoming vehicles.

• The navigation or GPS information contains errors or does not match the actual road.

• The driver does not follow the route guidance provided by the navigation system.

• The vehicle is traveling on a sharply curved or continuously winding road.

• The vehicle is driven over speed bumps, steep inclines, uneven road surfaces, or roads that rise, fall, or lean from side to side.

• The vehicle is shaking heavily because of road surface conditions or vehicle movement.

• The vehicle is being driven on a newly opened road.

• The vehicle is being driven on a road under construction or in an area with temporary traffic signs.

• The navigation software updates while the vehicle is being driven.
