Subaru Forester: Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) / Releasing the parking brake

Releasing the parking brake with EPB switch

1. Turn the vehicle on.

2. Firmly depress the brake pedal.

3. Press the EPB switch.

4. Confirm that the brake warning indicator has turned off.

Automatic release of EPB

The EPB releases automatically under the following conditions:

• When the vehicle is in P (Park)

  With the engine running, press the brake pedal and shift from P (Park) to R (Reverse) or D (Drive).

• When the vehicle is in N (Neutral)

  With the engine running, depress the brake pedal and shift from N (Neutral) to either R (Reverse) or D (Drive).

For Automatic Transmission

1. Start the vehicle.

2. Fasten the driver's seat belt.

3. Make sure the driver's door, hood, and liftgate are fully closed.

4. Press the accelerator pedal while the transmission is in R (Reverse) or D (Drive).

Confirm that the brake warning indicator is no longer illuminated.
