For added safety, the Kia Telluride is equipped with a shift lock system that prevents the transmission from being shifted out of P (Park) into R (Reverse) unless the brake pedal is firmly depressed.
To shift from P (Park) to R (Reverse):
Press and hold the brake pedal firmly.
Switch the vehicle to the ON position.
Select the desired gear.
If you repeatedly press and release the brake pedal while the transmission remains in P (Park), you may notice a slight clicking sound or vibration. This is a normal operating characteristic of the shift lock mechanism.
WARNING
Always keep the brake pedal fully depressed before and while shifting the Kia Telluride out of P (Park). This helps prevent unintended vehicle movement that could result in injury to people inside or around the vehicle.
