Subaru Forester: Air bag - advanced supplemental restraint system / Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) care

The Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) in your Kia Telluride is designed to be virtually maintenance-free. There are no components within the system that can be safely inspected, repaired, or serviced by the vehicle owner.

Because the SRS is a highly specialized safety system, routine maintenance is not required. However, all repairs, inspections, or component replacements must be carried out by qualified technicians using the proper procedures.

If the SRS air bag warning light fails to illuminate during startup, remains illuminated, or comes on while driving, have your Kia Telluride inspected immediately by an authorized Kia dealer. Continuing to operate the vehicle with an SRS warning may reduce the effectiveness of the occupant protection system.

Any work involving the SRS—including the steering wheel, front passenger instrument panel, front seats, roof rails, or related wiring—must only be performed by an authorized Kia dealer. Improper handling or unauthorized repairs may result in accidental air bag deployment or prevent the system from operating correctly during a collision.

When cleaning the air bag covers, use only a soft, dry cloth or a cloth lightly dampened with clean water. Avoid solvents, chemical cleaners, or abrasive products, as they may damage the cover material and interfere with proper air bag deployment.

If SRS components must be discarded or the vehicle is being scrapped, specific safety procedures must be followed. An authorized Kia dealer has the knowledge and equipment necessary to dispose of these components safely. Failure to follow the proper procedures may increase the risk of personal injury.

WARNING

Tampering with SRS

Never modify, disconnect, or tamper with the wiring or any other components of the Supplemental Restraint System. Unauthorized modifications may cause accidental air bag deployment or disable the SRS, reducing occupant protection during a collision.

WARNING

Towing vehicle

Always switch the ignition OFF and wait approximately 3 minutes before your Kia Telluride is towed. Because the rollover sensing system remains active for a short period, side air bags could deploy if the vehicle tilts significantly during towing.

Why didn’t my air bag go off in a collision? (Inflation and non-inflation conditions of the air bag)

Not every accident requires air bag deployment for additional occupant protection. In many situations, the seat belt system provides the primary and most effective restraint. Examples include certain rear impacts, secondary or third impacts in a multiple-collision event, and low-speed impacts where..

    Recap of important safety precautions

Never allow anyone to ride in the cargo area or on a folded rear seat. Every occupant should remain seated upright with their back against the seatback, seat belt securely fastened, and both feet resting on the floor while the Kia Telluride is moving...
