Subaru Forester: Driving your vehicle / Vehicle weight

This section explains how to load your Kia Telluride correctly so the total loaded vehicle weight remains within its approved design limits. Proper loading helps preserve handling, braking, durability, and overall vehicle performance. Before loading passengers, cargo, or equipment, become familiar with the following weight-rating terms shown in the vehicle specifications and on the certification label.

Base curb weight

This is the weight of the vehicle with a full fuel tank and all standard equipment installed. It does not include passengers, cargo, or optional equipment.

Vehicle curb weight

This is the weight of your new vehicle when delivered by the dealer, plus the weight of any aftermarket equipment added afterward.

Cargo weight

This includes all weight added to the base curb weight, such as luggage, cargo, accessories, and optional equipment.

GAW (Gross axle weight)

This is the total weight carried by each axle, front or rear, including vehicle curb weight, passengers, cargo, and installed equipment.

GAWR (Gross axle weight rating)

This is the maximum allowable weight that a single axle, either front or rear, is designed to carry. These ratings are listed on the certification label.

The total weight placed on each axle must never exceed its specified GAWR.

GVW (Gross vehicle weight)

This is the base curb weight plus the actual cargo weight and the combined weight of all passengers riding in the vehicle.

GVWR (Gross vehicle weight rating)

This is the maximum allowable weight of the fully loaded vehicle, including all options, equipment, passengers, and cargo. The GVWR is shown on the certification label located on the driver side or front passenger side door sill.
