Subaru Forester: Driver assistance guide / Emergency Stop (ES)

Emergency Stop is a driver assistance feature designed to help if the driver becomes unresponsive while driving. When the system determines that the driver is no longer responding, it can help keep the Kia Telluride centered within its lane while gradually slowing the vehicle to a controlled stop.

Detecting sensor

The front camera and front radar work together as the primary detection sensors to identify vehicles ahead. Refer to the Detecting sensor(s) section for detailed sensor locations and applicable information.

Operational Status

Emergency Stop becomes available when both Smart Cruise Control and Lane Following Assist are active.

NOTE

Emergency Stop forewarning and Deceleration Control

If a Hands-Off warning continues or the driver repeatedly fails to keep attention focused on the road ahead, the system interprets the situation as driver unresponsiveness.

Once driver unresponsiveness is detected, the Kia Telluride provides an initial warning using a message on the instrument cluster, an audible alert, and steering wheel vibration.

Take control of the vehicle immediately.

If the driver still does not respond after the initial warning, steering assistance and controlled deceleration are activated to help slow the Kia Telluride to a stop while remaining within the current lane whenever possible. During this process, the system continues displaying warning messages while providing audible alerts and steering wheel vibration to notify the driver that Emergency Stop is active.

Take control of the vehicle immediately. Vehicle is stopping.

Emergency Stop forewarning and automatic stopping assistance are canceled under the following conditions:

• The driver looks forward, grips the steering wheel, and resumes normal vehicle control.

• Smart Cruise Control is temporarily canceled or switched off.

• Lane Following Assist is turned off.

When Emergency Stop brings the vehicle to a complete stop, the system notifies surrounding traffic and the driver by displaying a warning message, sounding an audible alert, and activating the hazard warning flashers.

After the vehicle has stopped, the following actions are performed automatically:

• Unlock the doors.

• SOS Call connection (if equipped).

• The EPB is applied automatically.

• The transmission shifts into the P (Park) position.

Release

Emergency Stop is canceled when one or more of the following conditions are met.

Drive carefully

• The driver looks forward, firmly grips the steering wheel, and resumes normal control of the Kia Telluride.

• The accelerator pedal is pressed firmly and continuously.

• The brake pedal is applied with sufficient force.

• The Lane Following Assist button () is pressed.

• The Driver Assistance button is pressed.

• The hazard warning flasher switch is pressed after the vehicle has come to a stop.

• Either front door (driver or front passenger) is opened.

• The driver cancels the SOS call, if this feature is available.

• The transmission is shifted out of P (Park).

If Emergency Stop does not operate correctly, a warning message together with the Master warning light () appears on the instrument cluster. If this happens, have the Emergency Stop function on your Kia Telluride inspected by an authorized Kia dealer as soon as possible.
