Subaru Forester: What to do in an emergency / In case of an emergency while driving

In the event of an unexpected roadside emergency, maintain your composure, keep a firm grip on the steering wheel, and strictly carry out these recommended procedures:

If the vehicle stalls while driving

1. Smoothly ease off the accelerator pedal and allow speed to decay gradually while holding a straight path in your lane.

2. Carefully guide your vehicle across traffic lanes toward a safe, wide pull-off area or shoulder away from passing vehicles.

3. Depress the hazard switch button on the center console to turn on your hazard warning flashers and warn surrounding drivers.

4. Attempt to restart the engine after shifting into Park (P). If your Kia Telluride refuses to start or stay running, contact an authorized Kia dealer or emergency roadside assistance.

If the vehicle stalls at a crossroad or junction

1. Shift the transmission selector into N (Neutral) to unlock the driveline.

2. If safe traffic conditions permit, manually roll or push the vehicle clear of the intersection to a secure roadside location to avoid oncoming traffic collisions.

If you have a flat tire while driving

1. Gently lift your foot off the accelerator and allow vehicle momentum to dissipate gradually while steering straight ahead in a controlled manner.

   Avoid slamming on the brakes or making sudden aggressive steering maneuvers to pull over immediately, as abrupt weight transfer on a flat tire can cause severe directional instability or loss of vehicle control.

2. Once vehicle speed has dropped to a manageable, safe rate, apply gentle brake pressure and steer towards the outer edge of the roadway.

3. Pull as far off the active travel lanes as possible, bringing your vehicle to a complete stop on firm, level ground suitable for safe jack placement.

   When driving on a divided highway or freeway, avoid stopping in the narrow left median strip between opposing traffic flows unless forced to do so by immediate necessity.

4. Once fully stopped, switch your hazard warning lights ON, firmly set the parking brake, and select P (Park) on the gear shifter.

5. Direct all occupants to exit the cabin immediately, ensuring everyone exits strictly from the side of the vehicle facing away from active road traffic.
