Subaru Forester: Driver Attention Warning (DAW) / Driver Attention Warning operation

Inattentive Driving Warning function

The main purpose of Driver Attention Warning is to advise the driver to take a break when the system detects signs of reduced attention during driving.

Taking a break

  1. Consider taking a break

The Inattentive Driving Warning light (Inattentive Driving Warning indicator icon) blinks, a warning message appears on the instrument cluster, and an audible warning sounds when the system determines that the driver’s attention level is below a certain level. This reminder encourages the driver to stop at a safe place and rest before continuing.

  • Driver Attention Warning will not recommend a break when the total driving time is less than 4 minutes, or when fewer than 4 minutes have passed since the previous break recommendation.

The driver’s attention level is evaluated using the following criteria:

  • The driver’s individual driving patterns, including steering behavior and acceleration or deceleration inputs

  • Driving conditions, including the length of time the vehicle has been driven

The driver’s attention level is reset under the following conditions:

  • When the driver’s seat belt is unfastened and the door is opened and closed while the vehicle is stopped

  • When the Kia Telluride remains stopped for more than 10 minutes

  • When the vehicle is restarted

The rest recommendation operates under the following condition:

  • Vehicle speed: 40 mph (60 km/h) or above

WARNING

For your safety, change Driver Attention Warning settings only after parking the vehicle in a safe location.

CAUTION

  • Driver Attention Warning may recommend a break based on your driving pattern or driving habits, even if you do not feel tired.

  • Driver Attention Warning is a supplemental function and may not always accurately determine whether the driver is inattentive.

  • If you feel tired or unfocused, stop and rest at a safe location even if Driver Attention Warning does not recommend a break.

  • During an interior camera warning, the inattentive driving warning function may be limited.

Leading Vehicle Departure Alert function

  1. Leading vehicle is driving away

When a detected vehicle ahead moves away from a stop, Leading Vehicle Departure Alert notifies the driver by displaying a warning message on the instrument cluster and producing an audible warning sound.

WARNING

  • Leading Vehicle Departure Alert may not display a warning message or sound an audible alert if another system warning message or warning sound is being generated at the same time.

  • The driver is always responsible for driving safely, checking the area ahead, and controlling the Kia Telluride properly.

TIP

  • Leading Vehicle Departure Alert is a supplemental function and may not warn the driver every time the vehicle ahead departs from a stop.

  • Always check the front of the vehicle, surrounding traffic, pedestrians, and road conditions before moving forward.

TIP

The images, symbols, or colors shown on the instrument cluster may appear differently depending on the cluster specifications or selected display theme.
