Turning ON or OFF

Press and hold the dedicated Parking Safety control button () for more than 2 seconds to manually switch the Reverse Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist system ON or OFF.

Operating conditions

When Reverse Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist detects an active risk of collision with pedestrians or physical obstacles behind your Kia Telluride, a loud warning chime sounds, the steering wheel provides haptic vibration feedback, and a pop-up warning message displays on the instrument cluster. If the Surround View Monitor camera view is currently active, the central infotainment screen will also display an integrated graphical alert message.

If the calculated risk of collision becomes critical, Reverse Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist automatically controls the vehicle’s hydraulic braking system to apply emergency stopping force.

Ensure Backward Safety is selected within the Parking Safety menu on the infotainment system screen. The system actively engages under the following mandatory driving conditions:

The rear liftgate, hood, and all passenger doors are securely closed.
The Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) is fully released.
The transmission gear selector is shifted into R (Reverse).
Your current reversing speed is below 6 mph (10 km/h) when detecting pedestrians behind the vehicle.
Your current reversing speed is below 1 mph (4 km/h) when detecting obstacles behind the vehicle.

All essential Reverse Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist hardware components (including the wide-rear view camera lens and rear ultrasonic sensor array) are clean and in normal working condition.

When Reverse Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist activates and stands ready, a distinct horizontal indicator line appears at the bottom of the graphic vehicle display inside the instrument cluster screen.

TIP

Emergency automatic braking intervention triggers only once per reverse maneuver after you shift the gear selector into R (Reverse). To reset and reactivate active braking assistance for a new maneuver, shift out of R into another gear (such as Drive or Park) and then shift back into R (Reverse).

Non-operating conditions

Whenever the Reverse Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist system in your Kia Telluride detects an impending risk of collision with a pedestrian or stationary obstacle directly behind the vehicle, it issues an immediate audible warning chime accompanied by a prominent visual pop-up alert on the instrument cluster display. Additionally, if the central infotainment system screen is powered ON, a corresponding graphical warning overlay appears on the display.

If the system evaluates that a rear impact is imminent, Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist actively intervenes by applying emergency braking force to stop the vehicle.

For safety reasons, automatic braking assist automatically releases after holding the vehicle stationary for 5 minutes. Drivers should immediately depress the foot brake pedal and carefully inspect their surrounding driving environment.

The active braking intervention will also immediately disengage under the following driving actions:

You shift the transmission gear selector into P (Park) or D (Drive).
You depress the brake pedal manually with sufficient force to take full control of stopping the vehicle.
You clear the active system warning pop-up by shifting out of reverse into P (Park), N (Neutral), or D (Drive).

TIP

When the Reverse Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist feature triggers automated emergency braking while backing up your Kia Telluride, the active braking control automatically disengages after 5 minutes and automatically sets the Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) to prevent unintentional vehicle rolling.

NOTE

The outside temperature indicator shows the temperature around the sensor. However, the temperature may not be indicated correctly or the update may be delayed in the following conditions.
