If the liftgate must be opened manually from inside the luggage compartment, perform the following procedure:

  1. Remove the access cover located at the bottom of the liftgate.
  2. Slide the emergency release latch in the direction indicated by the arrow to unlock the liftgate.
  3. Push the liftgate outward to open it.

    WARNING

    • Become familiar with the location and operation of the emergency liftgate safety release before an emergency occurs. This allows you to exit safely if you ever become accidentally locked inside the luggage compartment.

    • Never allow people or animals to ride inside the luggage compartment. This area is not intended for passengers and can become extremely dangerous during sudden braking or a collision.

    • Use the emergency release mechanism only when necessary. Exercise extreme caution if the vehicle is moving or stopped in traffic.
