Never leave children or pets unattended inside your Kia Telluride. Children may accidentally operate the power liftgate, which could result in injury to themselves, other people, or damage to the vehicle.

Before operating the power liftgate or Smart Liftgate, make sure the opening area is completely clear of people, animals, and nearby objects. Contact with the moving liftgate can cause serious injury or damage to the vehicle or surrounding property such as walls, garage doors, ceilings, or nearby vehicles.

Under the following conditions, the liftgate may not open normally or could close unexpectedly, creating a risk of injury:

• Snow or ice has accumulated on the liftgate.

• A heavy accessory or cargo item, such as a bicycle rack or ladder, is attached to the liftgate.

Always remove accumulated snow, ice, or heavy accessories before attempting to operate the liftgate.

Avoid forcing the liftgate open or closed by hand during normal operation. Manual operation may damage the Kia Telluride power liftgate mechanism. If manual movement is necessary because the battery is discharged or disconnected, move the liftgate carefully without applying excessive force.

When the engine is not running, avoid operating the power liftgate more than ten consecutive times. Frequent operation with the engine off may discharge the vehicle battery.

Do not leave the power liftgate open longer than necessary, as doing so can gradually reduce battery charge.

Do not apply excessive force while the liftgate is moving. Interfering with its operation may damage the power liftgate components.

Never hold or pull on the liftgate support struts. Damaging or bending the support struts can affect proper liftgate operation and may result in vehicle damage or personal injury.

Do not attempt to modify, disassemble, or repair any part of the power liftgate yourself. Service should always be performed by an authorized Kia dealer.

The power liftgate may not function correctly under the following conditions:

• When one side of the vehicle is raised for maintenance or tire replacement.

• When the vehicle is parked on a steep incline or other uneven surface.

Before entering an automatic car wash, completely close the liftgate and lock all doors and the liftgate using the central door lock switch.

Avoid directing high-pressure water directly onto the exterior power liftgate open/close button, as this could unintentionally activate the liftgate.

If the liftgate is not completely latched and vehicle speed reaches or exceeds 1.8 mph (3 km/h), the warning chime will sound ten times. Park the Kia Telluride in a safe location, securely close the liftgate, and verify that the liftgate warning indicator on the instrument cluster has turned off.

During freezing weather, ice may prevent the exterior power liftgate button from operating normally. Remove any ice buildup before using the button, or operate the liftgate with the smart key or the interior liftgate control instead.

Operating the power liftgate more than five consecutive times may temporarily disable the system to protect the liftgate motor from overheating. If this occurs, pressing any liftgate control button will produce three warning chimes while the liftgate remains closed. Allow the system to cool for approximately one minute before attempting to operate it again.
